Planning and starting the moving process early are the two keys to moving success. Deciding the Who, What, Where and When early in the planning will save you money and frustration. You must first decide what you are going to move. where you will store items before your move, when you will move and finally who will move you.
Here are some tips that will help you plan and get ready to move into your dream home.

Getting Ready for the Move

  • Take a close look at your current home and decide what you are taking and what you are not. Think of the best way to dispose of the things you don't want to take.
  • Have a garage sale to get rid of the furnishings you won't be taking with you.
  • Give the rest to charity, making sure you get receipts for your donations.
  • Try to arrange the move to take place during the slower time of the month. a higher percentage of moves take place at the end of the month.

Who will move you?

Before deciding who will move you you must consider three things; Can you physically handle the move? Will you have enough help? Will you have enough time to complete the move as scheduled.
Find out if your homeowners insurance will cover you if there is an accident
When choosing a moving company, make sure they have adequate bonding and insurance, and get references.

Packing Tips

  • Combine items that go together.
  • Pack heavier items in smaller, heavy duty boxes
  • Inventory each item as they go into boxes
  • Clearly mark their destination on top and the side of the box
  • Gather and pack family records separately, including medical and tax records, school records and all family memorabilia.

Notify utilities and others before your move.

  • Notify your insurance company; Life, health, auto

Things to do before your move.

  • Empty and defrost your freezer.
  • Clean carpets before moving.
  • Plan for moving your pets and plants (some states will not let you take plants across state lines).
  • Double check closets, drawers, and shelving to make sure they are empty.
